Husband's Log - February 1st, 2026
We arrived in Mexico City last night around 10:30pm. Upon clearing customs at the airport, we walked into a busy baggage claim made to look like a Jungle by hanging dozens of electrical extension cords from the roof. After grabbing our bag, we walked through a hall with doggies in uniform on either side who occasionally checked people's luggage for treats 😛. We then met up with our transit coordinator, identifiable by his iconic orange Marty McFly down puffer vest. I swear he was sending us back to the future because it felt like we were travelling 88 miles per hour on the highway from Mexico City to Puebla.
Along the drive Angela fell asleep in her signature Roman fountain pose despite the bumpy fast ride. While she slept, I witnessed favela after favela on the sides of the highway and underneath bridges, each featuring a wide array of street food, Christmas lights, and ample parking for motorcycles. Driving in Mexico City is an adventure in and of itself. I don't think the term 'signal light' translates to Spanish as the cars would move seamlessly across lanes between each other with no indication of who was going where. Among the vehicles weaving through traffic was a middle aged man riding in the back of an early 2000's Ford Ranger, surrounded by a pile of garbage bags which served as his cushion. He was having the time of his life. The most familiar sight of all on our ride to Puebla was the golden arches of a Mcdonalds with the same building architecture as our own Mcdonalds franchises in Canada.
Once we arrived at the clinic in Puebla, our driver was most kind and helped us take our bags to our apartment. He then gave us a clear plastic bag featuring a pre-loaded phone and various documents as if we were covert spies on mission in Mexico and he was our handler. We then went to bed as it was 1:30 AM and Angela's medical journey began at 8:00 AM the next morning.
